Board Member Recruitment
At Second Wind Fund, we are recruiting three new board members for the 26/27 fiscal year to join our governing team. Applications will be reviewed throughout the fall, with final candidate selections confirmed by the board before the end of the calendar year. Cohort onboarding and formal orientation will begin in January/February.

As a Member of the Board of Directors, you serve as a trusted fiduciary, strategic counselor, and passionate ambassador for Second Wind Fund. Board members establish organizational priorities, maintain financial resilience, support the Executive Director and leadership team, and champion youth mental health across Colorado.
The Role of a Board Member
Strategic Governance & Fiduciary Oversight: Partner with board peers and the Executive Director to set long-range strategic goals, review financial health and annual budgets, evaluate organizational risk, and fulfill legal fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and obedience.
Active Committee Leadership: Serve actively on at least one standing committee:
Finance Committee: Direct financial controls, cash flow planning, audits, and reserve sustainability.
Fundraising & Development Committee: Spearhead individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and major campaigns (e.g., annual Walk/Run).
Program Committee: Guide clinical accessibility, provider network growth, referral trends, and demographic reach across Colorado.
Ambassadorship & Resource Development: Leverage personal and professional networks to elevate SWF’s mission, connecting the organization to prospective donors, corporate partners, civic leaders, and foundations.
Board Community & Learning: Attend monthly virtual board meetings, actively participate in generative discussions, and engage in governance and mission-focused learning opportunities.

Lived/worked experience in Western Slope or rural Colorado

Experience navigating nonprofit or corporate boards.
Time Commitment & Logistics
Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per month.
Meeting Cadence: Board meetings are held virtually on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM MT. Committee meetings occur monthly.
Financial Commitment: Make an annual personal financial donation that is meaningful to you, customized to individual capacity.
Insurance & Protection: Second Wind Fund provides comprehensive Directors and Officers (D&O) liability insurance coverage for all board members.
Recruitment Process & Pathways

Application Review: Applications evaluated on a rolling basis.

Interviews: Virtual or in-person conversations with Board Leadership & the Executive Director.

Board Confirmation: Candidates approved before calendar year-end.

Cohort Onboarding & Orientation: Targeted for early winter (January/February).

Community Advisory Pathway: Applicants not selected for full governing board seats may be invited to join standing committees as Community Advisory Members.
