Active Minds On Campus – is the nation’s only peer-to-peer organization dedicated to the mental health of college students. Active Minds on Campus works for mental health awareness, education, and advocacy on college campuses.

American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has posted a list of resources for parents, teachers, students, schools and pediatricians. The resources address how to cope in the aftermath of a tragedy such as Virginia Tech’s, as well as topics such as violence prevention, school safety, and suicide prevention.

American Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry –National professional medical association dedicated to treating and improving the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families affected by mental health disorders. Their website includes extensive resources for families.

American Association of Suicidology - Dedicated to the understanding and prevention of suicide. Site includes a variety of resources for survivors, including suggested books and support groups.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – Dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education and reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide.

American Psychiatric Association – Site offers mental health fact sheets, medication info, etc.

Carson J. Spencer Foundation – Supports programs and services dedicated to early intervention and effective treatment for people with bipolar disorder and suicidal

Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation – Parent-led, Web-based organization of families raising children diagnosed with, or at risk for, Pediatric Bipolar Disorder. The provide information on Pediatric Bipolar Disorder, a variety of resources, and a network of parents and experts who can help.

Children’s Grief Education Association, Navigating Children’s Grief – CGEA is dedicated to serving the needs of grieving children and families and to providing education and support to those who serve them. Community Voices - works to make healthcare, including mental health, available to all.

Dual Recovery Anonymous – Support for those who have both a mental health and alcohol/substance abuse problem.

Emotions Anonymous – 12 step program, similar to Alcoholics Anonymous, with weekly meetings throughout the country for the purpose of working through recovery from emotional difficulties.

Families for Depression Awareness - Helps families recognize and cope with depressive disorders. Sites includes a Mood Questionnaire.

Fierce Goodbye, a faith-based perspective on suicide that resulted in the TV special, The Fierce Goodbye, offers a multitude of resources on suicide prevention and for survivors.

Find the Light is a support group for those with anxiety or other mental health problems.

Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play (GASP) is a national group that works to prevent deaths by the choking game.  The Jefferson County Sheriff's office has put together an informational sheet about the choking game and other risky behaviors for the community as well. 

The Glendon Association is an organization whose mission is to save lives and enhance mental health by addressing the social problems of suicide, child abuse, violence, and troubled interpersonal relationships.  They conduct research and share findings through workshops, publications, and educational documentaries.

"Half of Us"...a campaign to reduce the student suicide rate, fight the stigma of mental health on college campuses and connect students and their friends to the resources and help they need.

Mayo Clinic Treatment Center – Information on mental health and mental illness, specific disorders and mental health treatments.

National Alliance for Mentally Ill – A family support and advocacy organization that includes local chapters.

National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) represents and supports school psychology through leadership to enhance the mental health and educational competence of all children.

National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare provides education, advocacy, and networking for community providers of mental health and addiction treatment services.

National Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health is dedicated to helping children with mental health needs.

National Mental Health Consumers Self-Help Clearing House – Helps consumers organize coalitions, establish self-help groups and other consumer-driven services, advocate for mental health reform, and fight the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illnesses.

National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP) – Sponsored by the Surgeon General and a collaborative effort of SAMHSA, CDC, NIH, NRSA, and HIS. It represents combined work of advocates, clinicians, researchers and suicide survivors in the U.S. and includes a wide variety of helpful resources.

SAFE:TEEN - Gives school staff the training and the tools needed to effectively educate students in suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Samaritan Institute is a national organization promoting healing and wholeness in mind, body, spirit and community for individuals, families and organizations.  They provide affordable, professional psychological counseling and testing in numerous locations.  

SAMHSA's National Mental Health Information Center provides information about mental health via a toll-free telephone number (1-800-789-2647), their website, and more than 200 publications.

SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) mission is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce stigma, and serve as a resource for those touched by suicide.

Schizophrenia and Schizophrenia-related illness information can be found at the World Fellowship for Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders site.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) – Supports suicide prevention to advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP). SPRC provides prevention support, training , and resource materials to strengthen suicide prevention networks and is the first federally funded center of its kind.

TeenScreen – The Columbia University TeenScreen Program is a national mental health and suicide risk screening program for youth.

The Trevor Project assists gay/questioning youth through a 24/7 hotline (1-866-4-U-TREVOR or 1-866-488-7386).  Their website offers additional resources.

What A Difference A Friend Makes – Part of the National Anti Stigma Campaign sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) developed to encourage, educate, and inspire people between 18 and 25 to support their friends who are experiencing mental health problems; includes information about mental health illnesses and resources.

Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program – Offers motivational programming, consulting, community and staff development, parent and community workshops and presentations, youth education programs, and survivor support.

Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General – A 500 page document released on 12/13/1999 which provides an up-to-date review of scientific advances in the study of mental health and mental illness, including youth suicide.
